Rare Ford RS200 Evo can be yours for $180k+

A Ford RS200 Evolution Groupe B homologation special produced back in 1983 in a batch of 24 units is on sale at Bring a Trailer with just 600 km (373 miles) under its belt. The bidding has already reached $180,000 with a few days remaining.

The original RS200 model was born 40 years ago as a street-legal counterpart to a Groupe B rally racer. According to the regulations active at the time, the manufacturer was obligated to assemble 200 such vehicles for homologation purposes.

However, the whole Groupe B was canceled before Ford could churn out half of these cars. Looking for a way to sell the examples made thus far, the company decided to further adapt the chasses of some cars to road use. The result is what we now know as the Evolution series.

Apart from improved suspension, the RS200 Evo packs a more powerful engine than its homologation counterpart does. Whereas the latter was making do with a 1.8-liter Cosworth mill rated at 250 horsepower, the car on sale has 2.1 liters of displacement and a powerful Garrett charger system. The details aren’t in the listing, but some reports claim that these engines could make up to 600 horsepower (~445 kW) with the boost pressure at the max and sprint 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in three seconds flat.
