Geely Binyue (Coolray) gets a new engine

Geely has put some more polish on its Binyue (Coolray) SUV lineup that it updated a couple of years ago.

The main novelty comes in the form of a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo. The same engine is found in the Binyue Cool model, which debuted last year as a successor-of-sorts to the Coolray (actually more like a facelift, but the two are being sold side-by-side right now). The new engine replaces the old three-cylinder option and makes a superior 181 PS (179 hp / 133 kW) along with 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque.

The seven-speed DCT and FWD remain the same. As an alternative, customers may consider a 1.4-liter base engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, capable of 141 PS (139 hp / 104 kW) and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of torque.

On the exterior side of things, the radiator grille now has a new pattern (vertical bars instead of cells), the wheels are new, and so are the assorted trim bits. Inside, the upholstery is new and trim options are different. Opting for the cheapest version still lands you with analog dash gauges and an 8-inch head unit, but paying extra gets you a digital dash, a 12.3-inch infotainment display and surround view cameras.

Prices range from 75,800 to 95,800 Yuan (U.S. $10,800–13,700). The newer Binyue Cool model starts from the equivalent of $14,200.
