Genesis dreams about a large, family-friendly estate car

As Genesis Design Director Luc Donckerwolke openly admits, the Wingback Concept seen here likely wouldn’t sell well if it were to be released today. However, if the SUV craze faded with time and the public attention switched back to fashionable wagons, it would make a fine addition to the automaker’s Magma vehicle lineup.

From the technical point of view, the car seen in the gallery above is a Genesis G90 (see video). The powertrain is the same, but the body style and the interior are all-new. It’s easy to spot flared wheel arches, a different radiator grille and a reshaped front bumper with sporty canards at both sides. The rear end looks just as aggressive with a diffuser and not one, but two spoilers. 22-inch forged wheels round off the stylish look.

It’s still unclear whether Genesis plans to produce an estate car like this anytime soon – likely not – but its individual design traits and quirks may trickle down to the entire Magma brand lineup. It’s been in development for a few years now, and Genesis claims it will offer a unique combination of “performance, handling and ride comfort” not seen in any other car from any other manufacturer in Europe. Sounds like the company sees a niche to fill in this crowded market.
