The latest FL5 Honda Civic Type R has set multiple lap records when it came out, and Carwow wondered how the FWD hot hatchback would compare against some of its AWD competition on the quarter-mile strip.

Five cars lined up before the start line: the Civic, a Volkswagen Golf R 20 Years Edition, an Audi S3, a Mercedes-AMG A35 and a BMW M135i. All five brought two-liter, four-cylinder engines to the fight.

Leading the spec sheet comparison is the anniversary-themed Golf R, which weighs 1,480 kilograms (3,263 pounds) and makes 333 PS (328 hp / 245 kW). The torque peaks at 420 Nm (310 lb-ft).

The Audi is marginally heavier with 1,500 kg (3,307 lbs) of curb weight and makes do with 310 PS (306 hp / 228 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). The Bavarian contender tips the scales at 1,525 kilos (3,362 lbs) and has 306 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) at its disposal, as well as 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.

The A35 is the heaviest of the bunch at 1,555 kg (3,428 lbs) and commands 306 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) along with 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). As for the CTR, it is the lightest of all with 1,429 kg (3,150 lbs) of curb weight, 329 PS (324 hp / 242 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft).
