Kia Niro EV reaches production end

After six years of production, the all-electric Kia e-Niro is facing an early retirement, leaving only the hybrid version alive.

Commenting on the decision, Kia pointed out that it simply has enough electric vehicles in its current portfolio as is. Even more importantly, most of these were designed using a dedicated EV architecture, so they don’t have the design flaws and compromises that the converted gas-powered Niro had. In other words, it wasn’t supposed to stand the test of time and is now going away.

As for the Niro hybrid, it will continue to be available with its 1.6-liter engine rated at 141 PS (139 hp / 103 kW). If we understood correctly, Kia plans to continue selling both the HEV and PHEV versions.
