Lexus ventures into the catamaran market

Toyota’s more upscale cousin has already experimented with building yachts (see video), but its JMS-2025 booth featured a rather new and unusual type of marine transports. Apparently, Lexus is considering making zero-crew catamarans that will ensure full privacy for everyone on board.

The conceptual vessel can steer itself on water and is fully autonomous in terms of propulsion. Innovative hard sails grant it enough acceleration from wind power alone, while the solar panels covering both sail masts generate enough energy for the electric equipment on board.

According to Lexus, a catamaran like this can transport up to eight adults and have them covered with a luxury living space in the midst of a sea. As a pure design study, it has no release date or in-depth technical specifications.
