Lexus confirms there will be no RX seven-seater

Speaking in an interview with Motor1, a representative of Lexus has confirmed that the latest generation of the RX SUV (shown here) would not be getting a long-wheelbase ‘L’ version with three seat rows instead of two.

However, the publication believes the Japanese automaker will be producing a separate model to replace the RX L. The company patented the abbreviation ‘TX’ not long ago, and everything points at it being the new seven-seater. We would not be surprised if it shared its entire engine selection with the RX, either.

The alleged Lexus TX might come based on the same platform as the Toyota Highlander, albeit sized a bit larger. The sales are expected to start next year.

In addition to the RX seven-seater, the newcomer may also phase out another outdated model – the GX, which has been in production for 13 years already. Toyota will probably release its own, more affordable version of the large three-row SUV using the same platform and much of the same tech.
