Marcos springs back to life again, announces a sports car… again

After its initial foundation in 1959, the UK-based automotive company Marcos had produced quite a few desirable lightweight sports cars before going bankrupt in 1971. Different investors had tried to bring it back in the years that followed, notably including attempts as recent as 2000 and 2007, but with the same unfortunate result. Fast-forward to April 2027, and Marcos is alive again – with not one but two cars in the oven this time.

The one seen in the gallery above is the Marcos Mosquito, a track-only vehicle based on a MINI chassis and tech. It weighs as little as 680 kilos (1,500 pounds) while pushing around 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) to the wheels. Only one test example currently exists, but the company claims a limited production run is guaranteed if the tests conclude successfully.

Later on, the revived brand hopes to produce an actual road-worthy model for Europe. It’s been conceptualized with a curb weight as low as 635 kilos (1,400 pounds) and something like 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW) at the crank. The humble engine output should be more than offset by the low weight, resulting in sporty handling and lively acceleration. This second, still-unnamed model may also get a track-only variant in the future.

All premiere dates and prices remain to be announced. All we know is that the Mosquito is supposed to debut before the end of the current year.
