Maserati MC20 gets track-tested to so-so results

A Maserati MC20 piloted by Christian Gebhardt, the test driver of German magazine Sport Auto, has lapped up the Nürburgring in 7 minutes 25.26 seconds – a solid result, but one that fell a bit short of everyone’s expectations.

The Ferrari Enzo, which went out of production 19 years ago, completed the North Loop (all 20.6 kilometers of it) in 7 minutes 25.21 seconds. Lots of other supercars performed even better.

That said, Gebhardt did manage to beat his own Ferrari 812 Superfast record of 7 minutes 27.48 seconds. According to fastestlaps.com, the MC20 landed on the 73th position in the ranking of the Nordschleife’s fastest vehicles ever.

The race took place in summer this year, but the media hadn’t learned about it until last weekend. It was officially recognized at the first MC20 race on the Nürburgring.

Once it finished the lap, the car was put on a dyno. Its 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 was able to hit the crank with 572.4 PS (565 hp; 421 kW) instead of the manufacturer-promised 630 PS (621 hp / 471 kW). Note that this is the nominal output; the actual amount of power reaching the wheels after all transmission losses was measured at a middling 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW).
