Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ revealed ahead of live premiere

Even though the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ won’t enjoy its official public debut until March 2019, the manufacturer seems content with revealing its detailed technical specifications in advance.

One major feature of the upcoming SUV is its mild-hybrid powertrain which comprises a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine and an electric supercharger. It is generally meant to produce up to 429 hp (320 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lbft) of torque, but can force its starter-generator to work as an auxiliary electric motor when necessary, resulting in a temporary boost to 451 hp (336 kW) and 770 Nm (568 lbft) of torque. In sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.3 seconds.

Aside from providing some extra horses and torque, the EQ Boost feature also strives to eliminate turbo lag and improve overall fuel efficiency.

Other notable features of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ include 9-speed automatic transmission, 4WD with a smart torque distribution system, and air suspension that supports five presets: Sport+, Sport, Comfort, Trail, and Sand (as you can see, the latter two are off-road settings).

Exterior novelty comes in the form of a redesigned radiator grille, numerous air vents (most of them just there for the looks), a thin rear diffusor and a quad-pipe exhaust system. All of the above combines to lend the German SUV a rather brutal appearance.
