2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class “the history’s biggest refresh,” company claims

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the facelifted S-Class debuts on next Thursday, January 29, 2026. Advertised as the biggest update in the company’s history, it allegedly consists of more than 50% new components and promises unlimited customization options.

To tide us over, the company has posted a video with an interview that Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius gave to Justin Tse, a Canadian vlogger with an interest in cars. According to it, the refreshed S-Class features whopping 2,700 new components – that’s around a half of the total – and rides much smoother than before thanks to a softer suspension. It is also designed to be convenient to people of all sizes: Källenius is 195cm (6’5”) tall, while Tse is about 165cm, or 5’5”. The difference between them is visibly huge, yet both claim they feel comfortable driving the S-Class.

Other promises include superior noise proofing all around, a quick and responsive MB.OS user interface, and more luxury options than ever before. Customers will be able to choose from a virtually unlimited list of trimming materials and colors as long as they are willing to pay the premium for them.

It’s worth pointing out in this context that the latest W223 S-Class has been around for nearly six years now, and sales in North America and China have been dismal recently. By unlocking full personalization, Mercedes hopes to win back at least some of its audience in those markets.
