Video: Lancer Evo IX spits fire from exhaust finishers

Few Japanese performance sedans are as renowned outside of their home market as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. This ninth-gen example made its way to Europe and evolved into a veritable monster with supercar-like acceleration times.

According to this video by AutoTopNL, the car retains its original 4G63 turbo-four mill with many serious improvements. Among other things, it now boasts 2.3 liters of displacement instead of 2.0, a forged crank, and a massive modern turbo kit instead of OEM.

As a result, the sedan uses a five-speed dog box to spew flames from its exhaust system while slamming the wheels with 716 PS (706 hp / 527 kW) of raw power. Outfitted like this, it reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.15 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.28 s, and can ultimately surpass the 270 km/h (274 km/h) shown in the video.
