Next-gen Mitsuoka Viewt bows in Japan

Mitsuoka, a carmaker known for redesigning popular models of other brands, has released another generation of its Viewt model. Dubbed the Viewt Story, the compact car looks nearly the same as before even though it is now based on Toyota Yaris chassis instead of Nissan Micra.

Prices in Japan start from ¥3,080,000, which is roughly equivalent to U.S. $22,800. The exterior puts us in mind of the British classics from the 1960s: note especially the bonnet, the headlamps and the heart-shaped radiator grille. Chrome stripes at the sides complete the look.

Unlike its predecessor, the Viewt story is no longer a sedan but a hatchback. The rear end is styled with round taillights and a shiny bumper decal.

The interior is largely stock Yaris fare, but the seats and the dash panel are trimmed in cream-tinted retro leather.

For the engines, buyers can choose from the stands non-turbo three-cylinder options rated at 69 and 120 metric horsepower and a hybrid system combining a 91-hp 1.5-liter engine with an 80-hp electric motor. The E-Four AWD system, which adds an electric motor at the rear axle, is also available at a premium.
