Exotic Ford Mustang Twister Special going on sale on Friday

A 1970 Ford Mustang Twister Special will go over the auction block in the United States on Friday, October 18, 2024. Reports indicate that only 96 such cars (see video) were made, and only a half of that quantity enjoyed a Super Cobra Jet V8 under the hood.

The Twister Special series originally came out upon the request of American Raceways International. However, when Ford had the first hundred units or so ready for shipment, the company was pronounced bankrupt. The automaker then decided to sell the cars through its normal dealerships in Kansas City, advertising them like any other limited edition.

Every example received custom wheels, radiator grille and fog lights, as well as generous wood trimmings and bucket seats in the cabin. The one on sale wears a bright orange paintjob with black stripes, and has a black interior to match. It also sports an air intake on the hood.

The equipment list mentions hydraulic power steering and power brakes with discs at the front axle. Sports-grade suspension and a limited-slip differential are also included as standard.

According to the seller, this ‘Stang is one of the precious few Twister Specials to survive to this date without modifications. Its 7.0-liter V8 still pumps out 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission.
