China puts names on its most reliable cars

Autohome.cn has published the list of Chinese car brands producing the highest-quality cars. To do it, researchers studied all vehicles with malfunctions discovered between two months and a year after the sale. The finalists are 15 automakers with the lowest PPH (Problem Per Hundred) rating.

Nia and Venucia (a brand owned by Dongfeng-Nissan JSC) took the first place with 49 and 50 defects, respectively.

Geely’s Lynk & Co scored nearly twice as bad with 98 issues discovered per 100 cars, which awarded it the bronze medal of reliability.

Rounding off the top five were Maxus (FAW Group) and Li Auto with 102 issues each.

Further down the list are Geely’s Geometry brand with 117 defects, BYD with 113, Dongfeng Forthing with 117, Baojun with 120, and Chery’s Exeed with 123.

Trailing the rating are Chery, Geely, GAC Aion (the EV division), Changan Oshan, and Xpeng.

The most issues were reported for such problematic brands as Baojun, Changan, Dongfeng Forthing, FAW Bestune, GAC Trumpchi, Hongqi, Jetour, Leap Motor, Neta, Ora, Roewe, and Wuling. Their owners complain about low material quality, high fuel consumption, inadequate noise proofing, and poor handling.

The authors of the ranking note that the quality of all cars mentioned in it is still above the industrywide average in China. Most frequently mentioned issued include bad noise proofing, low-grade trim and finish, unspecified body defects, engine problems, and climate control malfunctions.
