Reports: Nissan is worse off than the worst predictions so far

Rumors about a desperate financial situation at Nissan have been circulating for months, but we are only now finding out how bad the automaker’s struggles really are.

The fiscal year 2024 ended in Japan this March, but Nissan has yet to submit an official performance report for the period. It’s unsurprising that the company is taking its time, because earlier reports suggested it closed the year with a net loss of 80 billion Japanese Yen.

However, that estimate pales in comparison to Nissan’s own recent admission that it might close on a loss of 700 or 750 billion JPY, or around 5 billion USD. This is way worse than anything we expected and puts the failed merger with Honda into perspective. With losses as big as that and no revenue to compensate, crisis management may be the first thing the automaker needs heading into the next year.
