Opel unveils the 6th-gen Astra hatchback

The German carmaker has revealed the next generation of the hatchback-shaped Astra, which it claims has gone into a new era.

From the technical point of view, the car no longer retains any connection with General Motors, because it now runs on the EMP2 platform. The design is reminiscent of the latest Grandland, Crossland and Mokka, complete with their signature ‘Vizor’ front fascia made out of 168 LEDs.

Inside, the digital cockpit features twin 10-inch touchscreen displays. You can opt for sport seats or go for extra comfortable ones.

Customers may choose from engines rated between 110 and 225 metric horsepower (108 – 222 hp; 81 – 165 kW). There are no other specifics at this point, but Opel claims that there are a few hybrids coming along the usual petrol and diesel options.

The new Astra supports semi-autonomous driving, adaptive cruise control, HUD, 360-degree view cameras, and a number of electronic driving aids.
