Iran Khodro phases out its Peugeot 405 clone after 31 years of production

Tehran-based automaker Iran Khodro has announced the end of production of its ‘Peugeot Pars’ sedan, a slightly modified Peugeot 405 variant. The gap will be filled by the more up-to-date Soren+ model, Asbe Bokhar reports.

The Peugeot 405 went into production 36 years ago. Iran licensed it five years later. The ‘Pars’ version facelifted to resemble the newer model 406 was introduced in 2000. To this day, the Peugeot Pars remains one of the country’s best-selling vehicles.

Throughout the years, the car received an assortment of PSA-designed naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines with either 8 or 16 valves (modified XU and TU series). The displacement volume has stayed unchanged at 1.8 liters all along, while the output has risen from 83 PS (82 hp / 61 kW) to 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW) over the decades.

It is worth noting that the ‘new’ Soren+ model also runs on the Peugeot 405 underpinnings. It does look more modern thanks to a revised exterior and a new cabin design, though. A similar vehicle is already being sold in the country under the name Iran Khodro Dena.
