Legendary Porsche from the ‘60s coming back thanks to tuners

The Aerfal AE94 picks up where the famous Porsche 904 left off six decades ago, Motor1 reports quoting Daniel Robledo, the CEO of the automotive startup. Surprisingly enough, the car is being built on readily available Porsche 914 underpinnings with a completely new and bespoke engine.

The Porsche 904 (see video) was designed for track use, but it nonetheless remained street-legal. The automaker only made a hundred or so examples, and some of them proceeded to win prestigious racing awards. According to Robledo, the company would never be able to procure enough original chasses for its restomod project, so it decided to use the 914 chassis dating back to the same era. The 914 was much more of a mass-market car, with the total production count nearly reaching 120,000 units.

It's still a fairly old base to work with, the tuner agrees. As such, Aerfal intends to enlist the assistance of Multimatic to reinforce and otherwise modernize the chassis using modern components from BBS, Brembo and other industry leaders. All we know about the engine is that it is going to be a Tuthill flat-8 crafted from a blank slate. It has yet to be designed, so it’s too early to talk specs.

The famous UK-based restomod shop will also assist Aerfal with the interior, Robledo says. It will feature a trim composed of natural leather, wood and titanium accents. A chronograph co-designed with a prestigious watchmaker will adorn the dashboard; all details are pending.

The launch date remains unknown, but preorders should start soon.
