Porsche introduces a wireless charger for the Cayenne EV

The all-electric Porsche Cayenne has yet to be properly revealed, but the company has already unveiled an induction charger option for it. It’s slated for launch in Europe in 2026, the Porsche press service reports.

The mat-like device is supposed to be put under the front wheels of the car so that it properly aligns with the inductive receiver on the car. The images published by the company show how exactly the car should be parked on the mat using surround cameras.

Once in place, the Cayenne will automatically lower its ground clearance to between 100 and 150 mm (roughly 4–6 inches). This will maximize the charging efficiency. Owners will be able to use a dedicated mobile app called My Porsche to track the progress.

What remains unsaid is how fast the new Cayenne can go from 20 to 80 percent full using this charging method. What we do know is that it will be a paid option regardless of the trim, with European prices still to be announced.

In the meantime, the Cayenne EV is almost ready for prime time and may debut before the end of the year, although there is no set date yet. It rides on the platform known as the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) co-designed with Audi for electric vehicles alone.
