Video: Mercedes-Benz CEO showcases the electric G-Class in its natural habitat

Mercedes-Benz has shared a teaser video dedicated to the all-electric variant of the company’s G-Class, so far known as the EQG. The vid is over 12 minutes long and stars company boss Ola Källenius alongside EQG Chief Engineer Fabian Schossau as they take the battery-powered Geländewagen through its courses.

The filming location is known as the Schöckl Mountain near Graz, Austria. Mercedes produces and tests its gas-powered G-Class lineup in the same region. The company revealed last year that it intended to test the EQG every bit as extensively as its fuel-based predecessor, and the video seems to confirm it.

You can see the SUV ascend the mountain, ride up a rocky trail and perform a full standing turn, which the company dubs ‘the G Turn’. Drivers can choose a preset turn degree on their infotainment UI to simplify turning around – if you don’t need 360 degrees, you can do 180 or 90, for example. The reasoning for including this tire-destroying stunt into the feature list is that it can help get you out if you get stuck on the trail.

The electric G-Class remains scheduled for premiere in the first half of 2025.
