Remember Ringbrothers’ Chevy Chevelle that won Car of the Year 2014?

The Chevrolet Chevelle might be less famous than its peers Camaro and Corvette, but it still lends itself very well to upmarket modifications. Here’s what tuners did to one such example seven years ago, winning a prize as a result.

Ringbrothers decided to turn a model year 1966 coupe into a high-end restomod for the SEMA-2014 show. It asked Roadster Shop for an all-new chassis complete with per-wheel front and four-link rear suspension. The body ended up with carbon fiber components and a stylish BASF Storm paintjob.

Sitting in the arches are HRE Wheels Recoil forged rims sized 19×9 inches front and 20×13 inches rear. Six-piston Baer brakes at the front ensure adequate deceleration.

The cabin take our personal award for design: everything is finished with amazingly detailed metallic panels that go perfectly with a unique steering wheel, dashboard and center console. A Vintage Air climate control unit and power windows are among the few things that remind the driver that the car is a restomod, rather than a time capsule.

Power comes from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8. Exact figures are not known, but according to reports, the wheels receive around 993 PS (979 hp / 730 kW) and 1,000+ Nm (738+ lb-ft) of torque. We would imagine that track tests would only drop the price of a SEMA show car originally envisioned as a garage queen.

General Motors found the project so impressive that it actually awarded the Ringbrothers-tuned Chevelle the title of Car of the Year 2014.
