Geely looking into flying car industry

Chinese carmaker Geely has confirmed plans to start producing aeromobiles – that is, cars that can fly.

Two years ago, the corporation bought U.S.-headquartered Terrafugia, a company with fairly extensive experience in similar projects. Its most successful creation was the Terrafugia Transition (see the gallery and the video), a road-legal car that could turn into an airplane. That said, you still needed a pilot’s license to drive it, since it was technically a light aircraft.

The U.S. company is currently working on a new project that would combine a light passenger car and a tilt-rotor airplane with VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) capabilities. It looks like Geely is intensely interested in the project. In fact, it went as far as to announce the construction of a factory for large-scale aeromobile production: October 30, 2019.

The factory will allegedly be located in the Hubei Province, China, on a territory of 180,000 square meters (~215,000 square yards), and will be finished in a mere 12 months. It will incorporate a dedicated testing ground for flying cars.

The project should also be completely localized in China by the end of the next year. No pricing or availability details exist this early on, but Taili Flying Motors has already announced intentions to promote and sell the cars outside of China.
