Toyota launches Crown Estate in Japan

The Toyota Crown Estate wagon is now available for ordering on its domestic market starting from ¥6,350,000.

The vehicle is 4,930 mm (192.6 inches) long with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm (111.3 inches). It offers 570 liters (20.13 cubic feet) of trunk space expandable to 1,470 liters (51.91 cu. ft.).

Buyers can choose from five exterior finishes and five combo options with a contrast roof. 21-inch wheels and three interior trim options are also on the list. Two 12.3-inch displays are included as standard.

In its most basic form, the Crown Estate draws its power from a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW). It receives assistance from two electric motors. The front one makes 182 PS (180 hp / 134 kW) and 270 Nm (201 lb-ft) of torque, while the one at the rear axle adds 54 PS (53 hp / 40 kW) and 121 Nm (90 lb-ft). It’s a mild hybrid that’s not rechargeable from external sources.

If you pay extra, you can get a plug-in hybrid with the same engine tuned down to 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW) and 219 Nm (162 lb-ft) and the same electric motors. The PHEV packs a larger lithium-ion battery that grants it up to 89 km (55 miles) of all-electric range.

Toyota points out that the available interior space is the same for both models, because the battery is mounted under the floor.
