2022 Subaru Forester lands in Japan with sportier suspension, same engine

After unveiling the refreshed Forester SUV on June 14, Subaru has now launched offline sales in Japan.

The crossover vehicle sports a new front fascia including bumper, a larger radiator grille and intricately designed headlights. The wheels now also look a fair bit more expressive than before.

The chassis benefits from tweaks that make it more sports-friendly, and the hybrid car additionally gains a feature called e-active shift control for faster gear switching. The EyeSight semi-autonomous driving tech now drives more efficiently, while new, wider-angle stereo cameras allow you to notice obstacles sooner when turning.

Powertrains stay the same in Japan. This means a choice between a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine good for 145 PS (143 hp / 107 kW) and 188 Nm (139 lb-ft) of torque and its 1.8-liter turbo counterpart with 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). Both link to a CVT transmission and drive all four wheels.

The entry spec with the most basic engine will set you back ¥2,937,000, while the top engine spec only goes bundled with the Sport trim level for ¥3,330,000.

The fifth-gen (SK) Subaru Forester has been in production for three years now.
