Maruti Suzuki, an India-based automaker and the only company to manufacture the five-door version of the Suzuki Jimny, has confirmed that the compact SUV will soon be exported to the same markets in Latin America, Middle East and Africa where the three-door version is currently available.
The five-door Jimny debuted at the Auto Expo event early this year. It had a wheelbase extended by 340 mm (13.3 in) for a total of 2,590 mm (101.1 in), but its total body length stayed under 4 meters (156.3 in) due to the tax benefits for smaller vehicles in India.
The exterior and the cabin look the same save for minor modifications, but the trunk area is much larger in the five-door version. The size goes from 208 to 332 liters (7.35 to 11.72 cubic feet) when you fold down the seats. The most basic trim level includes six airbags, ESP, a 9-inch infotainment display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support and an Arkamys audio system.
From the powertrain perspective, the SUV is a mild hybrid powered by a 1.5-liter engine with 105 PS (104 hp / 77 kW) and 134 Nm (100 lb-ft) of torque and a starter generator. The transmission can be five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, and all four wheels are driven through a transfer case.
While not official, it is likely that the same car may be exported to some countries in non-electrified form.
