Toyota has unveiled the Kijang Innova, a new version of the Innova minivan aimed at the markets of India and Indonesia. Ordering is already available in these two countries, with other Asian markets set to follow soon.
Unlike the old Innova based on the same architecture as the Hilux, the new one utilizes the TNGA-C chassis with semi-dependent suspension on the rear axle and McPherson struts at the front end. The new platform added 100 mm (4 inches) to the wheelbase length for a total of 2,850 mm (111.3 inches). The company points out that this enabled it to add some extra space to the three-row interior.
By default, the MPV comes powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine capable of 174 PS (172 hp / 128 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is infinitely variable. Paying extra unlocks a hybrid version based on the same engine and rated at 186 PS (183 hp / 137 kW). The drive is on the front axle in both cases.
Premium options include HVAC, a multimedia system with a 10-inch display, a digital dash and a host of electronic assists.
