South African tuner SVI has produced the Max 3, a heavily tuned Toyota Land Cruiser 70 designed specifically for military use.
Cars will come in a wide assortment of versions, ranging from a simple pickup truck to a light infantry vehicle capable of carrying seven soldiers. Depicted on the photos is a four-door, right-hand-drive truck, but the company says it will ship left-hand-drive models overseas if desired.
The Cruiser gets a brand-new armored body with doors that swing open against the traffic. The Japanese powertrain stays untouched inside, however. The chassis benefits from numerous reinforcements and added anti-sway bars, and the wheels are as bulletproof as the rest of the car.
The Max 3 starts from 1.6 million SAR Rands, which roughly amounts to U.S. $105,000.
