Toyota may introduce two less typical SUVs in the next few years, Reuters reports quoting its own sources. One of them is a mid-size crossover, while the other one is a compact-sized Land Cruiser. Both novelties are going to be primarily aimed at the Indian market.
The mid-size crossover is so far known internally as the 340D and is a C-class vehicle. In Toyota’s India lineup, it is expected to slot in between the small Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the larger Innova Hycross minivan.
The company expects to produce the model at its new local factory, which it has yet to begin building. Once complete, the factory is expected to churn out up to 200,000 vehicles per year, out of which 60,000 will be 340D models. The market premiere remains penciled in for late 2025 – early 2026.
As for the baby Cruiser, there is still no finite decision whether it should be greenlit or not. In either case, Toyota isn’t holding its breath regarding sale volumes. If it does get released, it will most likely borrow its exterior design from the Compact Cruiser EV Concept. Insiders had claimed earlier that a production car like that was discussed at Toyota, but only with an electric powertrain.
The Japanese automaker flashed a couple of upcoming SUV released briefly when it premiered the new Land Cruiser Prado. One of the cars resembled the Compact Cruiser EV, while the other looked like a large bZ-series vehicle.
