Meet the VW ID. Era 9X, another full-size hybrid SUV for China

SAIC-Volkswagen hopes to start shipping the ID. Era 9X crossover on its domestic market before the end of March. In keeping with the local trends, it is a large hybrid crossover with a highly digitalized interior and hardly any physical buttons.

Billed as a luxury vehicle, the ID. Era 9X measures 5,207 mm (203.4 inches) long with 3,070 mm (119.9 inches) between the axles. It has a three-row interior with two separate seats per row (six total) and comes equipped with a pair of 15.6-inch dash displays. A separate 21.4-inch screen is provided for the rear passengers. Ambient lighting and other modern niceties come included as standard.

Power for the new SUV comes from a 1.5-liter turbo engine rated at 143 PS (141 hp / 105 kW) and either one or two electric motors. The base spec makes do with a single 300-PS (296-hp / 221-kW) motor at the rear axle. It has 267 km (166 miles) of range per the strict WLTP standard, but you can pay a premium for a larger battery and get 340 km (211 mi) per charge.

The flagship version adds a 218-PS (215-hp / 160-kW) motor to the front axle, resulting in an electric AWD setup capable of 321 km (199.5 miles) in zero-emission mode.

All prices are pending. Once out, the VW ID. Era 9X will compete against China’s other large SUVs, like the Lixiang L9 and the Zeekr 9X.
