Forsaken Volvo showroom discovered in Belgium

A mysteriously abandoned showroom with a handful of 1980s-era Volvo cars parked on its premises has been discovered in Malmedy, Belgium. The Drive did an investigation and found out that the location had even more cars standing around in the past.

By analyzing satellite images and stock photography of the early 2010s, the publication was able to establish that the same showroom had several dozen more recent Volvos parked next to it. These newer cars all disappeared after 2014, likely taken away by the owner of the territory.

Just why the older ones were allowed to stay remains unexplained. Our leading theory is that the dealership went bankrupt and the bank that repossessed the premises either made an operational mistake or deliberately abandoned them, deeming what little remained not worth recovering. One has to wonder how well that decision has aged, given how popular retro automobiles are today.
