LE NOVITÀ
Volvo representatives had repeatedly stated that hatchbacks might drop out of the lineup completely due to customers increasingly preferring SUVs. It now turns out that the company sees three-door crossovers as a viable alternative.
Volvo says it is currently developing a three-door, coupe-like version of its V40 SUV shown in the gallery here. In 2018, the entry-level crossover took a nosedive in terms of sales, urging the company to reconsider its viability.
What remains unclear is how the Swedish marque plans to fill the gap while the car is still in development. It is reported that the company will need three years to deliver the coupe/SUV. Despite this, Volvo seems confident of its actions, arguing that it already has a successful five-door off-roader: the XC40. Making another one would only dilute the model range, while introducing a compact three-door car would diversify it.
