Meet Wuling Nano EV, a tiny electric car for $3k

Chinese automaker Wuling has stripped its own Mini EV of the “smallest battery car” status: the new Nano EV is under 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) long and costs 20,000 Yuan, or a touch over $3,000 USD.

The Nano EV offers respectable 300 kilometers (186 miles) of driving range according to the admittedly outdated NEDC measurement standard used in China. It comes in at 2,497 mm (97.5 inches) long with 1,600 mm (62.5 inches) of wheelbase. The size enables it to make a turn with a radius of 3.8 meters, or 12.5 feet. It still somehow manages to fit two adults inside along with a small trunk for luggage.

The thrust is provided by an electric motor rated at 32 PS (32 hp / 24 kW). The battery supports charging from a regular wall socket. Wuling points out that opting for a 6.6-kW charger cuts the charging time to 4.5 hours.

The first two Wuling Nano EV models to hit production will be named Nick Limited Edition and Judy Limited Edition, both co-designed with Disney and targeting the younger audiences with their Zootropolis cartoon styling. Differences from the stock version include special badges, decals featuring Nick and Judy, especially vivid interior upholstery, and embroidered details.
