2nd-gen Kia Seltos bows with extra room and a hybrid powertrain

Korean automaker Kia has officially introduced the second generation of its Seltos crossover. It is noticeably larger than the first one and slated to go on sale in the U.S., Europe, India and some other regions next year.

The new Seltos measures 4,430 x 1,830 x 1,600 millimeters (173 x 71.5 x 62.5 inches) large, coming close to the Kia Sportage in terms of size. Thanks to this, it now boasts a solid 536 liters (just under 19 cubic feet) of trunk space – 100 liters (3.5 cu.ft.) more than its predecessor had.

In terms of styling, the SUV simultaneously resembles Kia’s larger models, all the way up to the full-size Telluride, and its recent EVs. It boasts a large and well-outlined front grille, upright DRLs and complex c-pillars lending it a sporty profile.

The interior is more or less like that of any other Kia vehicle. The transmission selector still rests on the transmission tunnel, physical buttons accompany touchscreens, and the round steering wheel is only mildly squared. Options include two audio systems (Bose and Harman Kardon), panoramic roof, ambient lighting and lots of ADAS.

Power for the cheapest new Seltos on the list comes from a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine rated at 149 PS (147 hp / 110 kW). The nearest alternative is a 1.6-liter turbo engine available in 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) and 193 PS (190 hp / 142 kW) boost versions. Depending on your region, transmission choices may include six-speed manual, seven-speed DCT and eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive will only be available with multi-link rear suspension. The hybrid mentioned above remains to be announced, specs and all.
