Electric superminis are a highly popular form of personal transports in China, and the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV featured in the video here counts among the international best-sellers. However, it looks like it could soon be dethroned.
With 125,925 units sold in January through April 2021, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV remains at the top. Its key selling point is the price, which amounts to mere 28,000 Chinese Yuan, or about $4,300 USD. Now, according to multiple Chinese media reports, a new microcar named Lingbao Coco is coming to the market priced even more attractively at 26,800 Yuan ($4,150).
The tiny EV is 3,548 mm (11.64 feet) long and wears 155/70 R13 tires. Its sole electric motor churns out 41 PS (40 hp / 30 kW) and 95 Nm (70 lb-ft) of torque, enabling a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph). It comes with a LiFePO4 battery obtainable in two sizes for 120 and 220 kilometers (75 and 136 miles) of range, respectively.
According to the media, Lingbao will offer the Coco in four trim levels dubbed Hero, Alliance, Glory, and Honor Edition. Features vary greatly between these, the base spec offering a bare minimum and the top spec coming with an AC, a multimedia system and even some driving assists.
