BAIC gets a cheap electric hatchback ready for production

The BAIC Arcfox T1 is a subcompact EV that sohu.com believes will start from 70,000 Yuan ($9,750 USD) when it reaches the showrooms.

The pre-production car debuted at the Auto Shanghai show in April this year. These photos show its final, production-ready version. It looks even sportier than the show car thanks to more aggressive bumpers, a rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels and a roof offset in black. It is sized 4,337 x 1,860 x 1,572 mm large with 2,770 mm between the axles.

A single motor at the front axle drives it with 94 PS (93 hp / 69 kW). The battery pack comes from CALB (China Aviation Lithium Battery Technology Group Co., Ltd.) and uses lithium-iron-phosphate cells. Different specs have it listed with 41.7 and 42.3 kilowatt-hours of capacity for 410 and 425 km (255 and 264 miles) of range, respectively.

Once out and about, the BAIC Arcfox T1 will compete against similarly priced EV bestsellers, like the BYD Seagull and the Geely Xingyuan.
