Meet the Manhart MHX5 700, a carbon-clad crossover SUV with 740 PS

A year and a half ago, German tuner Manhart introduce the world to a particularly extreme version of the BMW X5 Competition, named the MHX5 800. A marginally less crazy variant of that car is coming to the market now with its own merits.

It would be odd to call the X5 Comp underpowered with its stock output of 625 PS (616 hp / 460 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. Even lacking the aerodynamics of a sports car, it still makes it from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under four seconds.

Manhart improves upon these figures by adding a finely tuned external ECU to the system, which persuades it to churn out 740 PS (730 hp / 544 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. The engine gets a quad-pipe exhaust system with 100mm tailpipes to keep cool at all times.

Other notable mods include coil-over suspension and forged wheels 23 inches across. The body gets a carbon-fiber kit comprising a ventilated hood cover, a front splitter, multi-piece side skirts, and a rear diffuser with an anti-fog light in the middle.

The interior will instantly feel familiar to all Manhart fans thanks to the easily recognizable features like paddle shifters, replacement mats, and steering wheel partly trimmed with carbon fiber.
