Leading Chinese automakers, BYD and Geely, have announced a technology race of sorts. The two companies want to compete with each other in designing the longest-range hybrid cars possible.
Both businesses reckon that it should be possible to make a hybrid car capable of running 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles) on a single charge and a full tank. Note that the estimate is CLTC-rated, meaning it’s rather optimistic.
On an interesting side note, neither company claims that a technological breakthrough is needed. Both are apparently convinced that they just need to polish and perfect the technology they already have in order to succeed.
