Stretched Chery Fulwin X3L debuts in China

Chery has unveiled the long-wheelbase version of its Fulwin X3 crossover for China. It features 165 mm (6.45 in) of extra body length, up to 1,200 km (745 miles) of extended driving range and a starting price of 119,900 CNY.

The biggest X3 EV measures 4,380 mm (171.1 in) long. The part-electric X3L is 4,545 mm (177.5 in) long with 2,783 mm (108.7 in) between the axles and 225 mm (8.8 in) of ground clearance. The manufacturer claims it can wade water up to 625 mm (24.4 in) high.

On the exterior side of things, the stretched Fulwin X3 has boxier wheel arches and slightly more aggressive bumpers than its standard counterpart. It rides on wheels up to 21 inches large and features a tailgate that drops down to one side providing handy access to a built-in toolbox.

Buyers will be choosing from two serial hybrid powertrains. Both use the same 1.5-liter engine as a power generator, but while one makes do with 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque heading to one axle, the other one benefits from 428 PS (422 hp / 310 kW) and 505 Nm (372 lb-ft) going to all four wheels. The latter version is faster to launch with 4.7 seconds from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). The battery is fixed at 33.68 kWh, and Chery reckons it is enough for 135–215 km (84–133 miles) of range depending on other parameters.

A peek inside reveals pretty much the same interior as the X3. Features include a 15.6-inch infotainment system running on Snapdragon 8155 hardware, Falcon 500 ADAS and assorted off-road accessories and assists. Paying extra gets you adaptive shock absorbers and a roof-mounted scouting drone for expeditions into the wilderness.

If you think you’ve seen the Fulwin X3L before, that’s because the entire lineup is styled very similarly to Chery’s other automobile sub-brand, iCar. The rest of the world gets these cars under “iCAUR” branding.
