China reports falling car sales in January

12% fewer buyers went shopping for new cars in China last month compared to January 2024, but there is a plausible explanation for this.

In the first month of the year, dealerships in China moved 1.81 million vehicles, including 1.09 million locally assembled ones.

This is roughly one-eighth less than the year before, but we suspect that the Lunar New Year played a major role in this statistic. It was celebrated from January 29th until 12 February 12th, stores closed and no orders processed. In 2024, the celebrations didn’t begin until February.
