The affordable Cupra Raval hot hatch shares its platform with the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Polo (see video) and will be offered with two motors and three specifications to choose from. It should debut soon, but the specific date remains to be announced.
The two main specs, Dynamic and Dynamic Plus, make do with an e-motor sending 210 PS (207 hp / 154 kW) to one axle. A battery pack of undisclosed capacity supplies both with 450 km (280 miles) of range per charge.
The top spec called VZ Extreme inches out a power advantage with a different motor rated at 226 PS (223 hp / 166 kW), but doesn’t cover more than 400 km (248 miles) on a single charge. It takes advantage of special 19-inch wheels, 10mm (0.4-inch) wider track, adaptive suspension, an electronic inter-wheel diff lock and an ESP toggle.
In many respects, the Spanish automaker’s hatchback looks close or identical to the ID. Polo, but there are some meaningful differences, too. Cupra claims the Raval handles sharper thanks to a stiffer suspension setup and a 15mm (0.6-inch) reduction in ride height, as well as certain steering tweaks. It also ships with bucket seats already included as standard, while things like panoramic roof, self-parking, Matrix LED headlights and a 12-speaker audio system by Sennheiser are all listed under options.
Preliminary estimates say the five-door EV will start from around €26,000 in Europe.
