Daihatsu Tanto puts on an off-roader disguise

Daihatsu’s fourth-gen Tanto has been on sale since 2019 and is still the marque’s best-selling vehicle in Japan. Now, those in the market for a Kei car may opt for a new Tanto modification called Fun Cross coming with new design traits and options.

Compared to the stock Tanto, as well as the special spin-offs called Custom X and Custom RS, the Fun Cross features a restyled front end with a rugged-looking bumper. A giant Lexus-style grille is, remarkably, missing, but at least you get a sturdy aluminum bull bar and headlamps with new light patterns.

Inside, the dashboard sports orange accents, and customers may opt for new green and beige trim variants.

Power still comes from the usual 660cc three-pot engine available in naturally aspirated (52 PS / 51 hp / 38 kW) and turbocharged (64 PS / 63 hp / 47 kW) forms. A continuously variable transmission sends the torque to the wheels.
