Video: De Tomaso’s supercar’s V12 is an impressive piece of engineering

The engineers over at Italtechnica have produced a very special engine for the upcoming De Tomaso P900 track-only supercar. It commands seven liters of naturally aspirated displacement, revs up to 10,200 RPM and outputs up to 900 PS (888 hp / 662 kW). If you listen to it sing in the video, you may get strong Formula 1 vibes.

The new V12 is designed around a custom cylinder block with four titanium valves per cylinder and two distribution shafts per head. Made largely of aluminum with a carbon-fiber intake manifold and a dry-sump lubrication system, it weighs less than 200 kilograms (440 pounds). Most internals such as the rods are forged, further reducing the weight while ensuring peak durability.

Little is known about the transmission, or even the supercar itself. Back when the De Tomaso P900 debuted in the year 2022, it was only shown via 3D renderings – and those have since been pulled from the company’s official website. Looks like the final appearance of the car will be significantly different from those sketches.

Prices and availability are likewise TBA. The revived Italian automotive brand originally promised us 18 vehicles priced from €3,000,000, but the last time it mentioned these figures was four years ago.
