The return of the DeLorean badge created powerful ripples among enthusiasts and prompted popular reviewers to chase after the first production examples of the Alpha5 coupe in the hopes of filming a full-blown video review. Supercar Blondie just wrapped up filming hers, so come and have a look!
The new DeLorean has an unusual styling choice only visible when its gull-wing doors are lifted. The door rims are lined with pulsating LED lights that continue along the body of the car until merging in V-shaped patterns at the nose and the tail. Of course, the lights at the front end are white and those at the back are red.
The interior draws obvious parallels with the legendary DMC-12, the ‘Time Machine’. Among other things, browsing among available digital dashboard skins lets you choose gauges identical to those of the movie car. Another fun reference comes in the form of USB ports disguised as heating/ventilation knobs of the original car.
But the quirkiness doesn’t end there. According to Supercar Blondie, each DeLorean comes with a special bracelet styled like a smart watch that maintains a permanent link with the car. Among other things, it can measure your pulse and then project it onto your seat, vibrating the seat every time your heart makes a beat. Your car can even ‘kiss’ you using the air vent built into the headrest. One has to wonder what it feels like.
One last thing we learned from the review is that DeLorean re-evaluated the standard launch time of the Alpha5: according to the latest data, the car can reach 97 km/h (60 mph) in 2.9 seconds.
