1 of 50 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB spider cars set to fetch up to $12M

A unique Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione produced 62 years ago will be heading to the block next month, and is expected to bring its seller between $10 and $12 million USD given its sheer exclusivity value.

The California Spider is essentially an open-top variant of the 250 GT Tour de France Berlinetta. It was chiefly designed for North America and came out in a production run of 106 units in 1957–1962, including 56 short-wheelbase and 50 long-wheelbase ones. This example falls under the latter category, which makes it more expensive.

Power comes courtesy of a Weber V12 outfitted with three carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The rear axle features a limited-slip differential gets up to 253 PS (250 hp / 186 kW).

This specific example boasts OEM options present on only 10 other long-wheelbase models, and is otherwise unique (factory customized) in multiple ways. For example, the buyer specified a larger-than-usual fuel tank of 136 liters (36 U.S. gallons).

The lot comes with plenty of authenticity certificates and documents. The car has seen as many as 11 owners, the first being an amateur racing driver from Milan, Italy. It was imported into the States 22 years ago, has recently received a complete overhaul, and is said to be in excellent overall condition.
