It takes Italian company Terzo Dalia a year or so to finish building one 1:3 replica of a Ferrari engine, and the result sometimes costs $15,000 to buy.
According to U.K.-based auto dealership DK Engineering, the imitation pieces are so painstakingly detailed that some are even exhibited in the Ferrari Museum. Before the work can begin, the company measures the original unit, creates a precise blueprint, builds a wooden mockup, and only then proceeds to manufacture components needed for an actual replica. Some of these are made out of aluminum and others from stainless steel, but all require handwork.
The result is an engine that will never function in a car, but has plenty of parts that move and otherwise behave like they should in this particular powertrain model.
Some of the more interesting highlights include a 6.3-liter LaFerrari V12 and a V12 Colombo from the 250 GTO. Terzo Dalia also builds wireframe imitations of cars in the same 1:3 scale.
The company claims that Ferrari owners are among the main buyers of these replicas, because they often want to have a bit of Ferrari in their home interior.
