The very last Ford Escort RS Cosworth can be yours for €48k+

Ford wrapped up the production of the Escort RS Cosworth in January 1996, but later found enough spare parts to put together just two more cars. The second car is now being auctioned off for €48,000, although the price may rise in the remaining few days.

The production took place at the Karmann factory in Rhein, Germany. The car was originally assembled for Wilhelm Karmann Jr., who was the Chairman of the Board of the factory at that time and used the Escort RS as his office car.

In 1998, the sports car was handed over to Dieter Hahne, the head of Ford Special Vehicle Engineering at the time. Hahne, who presided over the development of the Escort RS Cosworth model, had to register the VIN number in the UK – something Karmann Jr. never did for some reason. He is selling the hot hatch now.

The road-legal Cosworth (see video) was designed to homologate its rally car version. It comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo engine rated at 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW) and a manual transmission driving all four wheels through a self-locking differential. The main design differences from the standard car include a unique trunk lid spoiler and sporty cabin accents, as well as Recaro seats.

The car is reportedly in great condition with only minor age marks on it.
