Ford to get rid of multiple SUVs

The U.S. carmaker plans to clamp down on its soft-roader lineup, Carscoops reports citing Ford CEO Jim Farly, who apparently never mentioned any specific models but let certain implications be drawn, nonetheless.

According to his statement, Ford was planning to trim down its compact mass-market crossover lineup and pull out of the two-row SUV segment completely. The management has evidently found the development of such cars less profitable than bigger seven-seaters bringing in larger premiums.

Carscoops believes that multiple models may end up axed at once, most likely including the Edge and the Escape/Kuga. The latter received a mid-life refresh last year (see video), and the rumors were circulating that there would be no new generation after that.

As for the stretched Edge L version sold exclusively in China, it should not be affected. Finally, the Ecosport model is almost as good as gone by now.
