Ford never gave up the idea of an AWD Mustang

Media first learned back in 2018 that Ford was working on a Mustang design study powered by a V8-based hybrid powertrain and packing all-wheel drive. It now seems that the company was serious about bringing it into production.

Speaking in an interview, Ford brand manager let it slip that the company was constantly looking for ways to modify and improve its lineup, especially since the Mustang’s main rival – the Dodge Challenger – drives all four wheels. He added that there was nothing to announce “at this point”, but made it clear that Ford was looking forward to switching its Mustang range to AWD.

The next-gen Mustang is expected to launch in 2022 or 2023, and it is official that it will ship electrified. Looks like the company will use this opportunity to implement a four-wheel drive system.
