1 of 98 Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake speedsters goes on sale

A rare Ford Mustang in a Speedster body with 125 km (77 miles) under its belt is being auctioned off in the United States right now with the bidding at $100,000 and a few days remaining.

Shelby assembled 98 such vehicles in the early 2020s to honor the 98th birthday of the company founder, Carroll Shelby. It basically took a Mustang roadster and put a ‘dual-hump’ aerodynamic cowling on the trunk area where the retractable soft top usually is. You can no longer use the top with this trim panel in place, but you can take it off and put it in the trunk.

There were other Speedster variants as well, all based on the Super Snake spec. Aside from the aerodynamic add-on, they received suspension and brake upgrades, as well as an engine boost. Shelby equipped the stock 5.0-liter V8 with a Whipple supercharger, an improved fuel system, a Borla exhaust and other mods.

The resulting output is a cool 836 PS (825 hp / 615 kW). The example on sale was specced with a six-speed manual transmission and an LSD. It was number 77 in the batch and cost just above $151,000 when new.
